William Smith , of No . £ > , Little Thomas-street , Gibson-street , Lambeth , dated Dec . 12 , 1849 . To Professor Holloway , " Sir , —I beg to inform you that for nearly five years I hardly kiiew what it was to have a day ' s health , suffering from extreme weakness and debility , with constant nervous headaches , giddiness , and sickness of ' the stomach , together with a great depression of spirits . I used to think that nothing couhi benefit me , as I had been to many medical men , some of whom , after doing ' all that was in their power , informed me that they considered that 1 had some spinal complaint beyond the reach of cure , together with a very disordered state of the stomach and liver , making my case so complicated that nothing could be done for me . One day , being unusually ill and iu a dejected state , I saw your Pills advertised , and resolved to give them a trial , more perhaps from curiosity than with a hope of being cured , however I soon found myself better by taking them , and so I went on persevering in their use for six months , when I urn happy to say they effected a perfect cure , "( Signed ) WILLIAM SMITH , «• ( frequently called EDWARD . )" 8 old at the Establishment of Professor Holloway , 244 . ON the PHYSIOLOGICAL CHANGES ivliich incessantly take place in the Human Economy dining Life . By JAMES COCKLE , Surgeon . " Life ' s like a gentle stream , Forever changing , yetunucrceived tin ; change . " Moat important is the part allotted to the digestive organs in the economy . It is there the first of a series of changes commences , concerned in effecting , ultimately , the nutrition of the individual—changes so necessary to the continuance of life , that almost every other act is subordinate to them , inasmuch as those organs affording the material of action for th < t others , may bo regarded , physiologically , as original powers , which maintain the wonderful and complete machinery of the body in continuous action . These facts premised , the claims of these organs to our attention will bo sufficientl y obvious , more particularly with reference to a diseased condition . The disorders of the digestive organs , which impnir the health , have a two-fold operation : first , by tlio local symptoms of indiir 8 lion , arising from the detention of ill digested iiifitiei-s , morbid fn quality and ijuantity , ami secondly by the constitutional disturbance occasioned by the absorption of these matter *) into the circulation , and powerfully irritating the nervous system . The treatment of such disorders must be palliative and curative : tho first , of course , would consistof regulated diet , & c . —the second , of aromatic , tonic , and aperient medicines . To fulfil these latter indications , Mr . COCKLE'S ANTIBILIOCJ 8 PI LLS are confidently rocommendod ; as by combiningaromatic , tonic , and aperient properties they remove all oppressive accumulations — regulate the secretion of tho liver — strengthen tho stomach—induce a healthy appetite—ami impart tranquillity to tho nervous system . —18 , New Orrnond-street , London . % Mr . Cockle's Pills may bo had of nil Medicine-vendors , iu boxes at l 8 t lid ., 2 s , 0 d .. 4 s . 0 d ,. and iu family boxes at lie ,
