' ¦ j : ] i 1 - 1 1 £ T > ROGRESS of the UNITY GENERAL J 7 ASSURANCE ASSOCIATION ^ ^ Ciiief Ofices . •—Unity-buildingfl , 8 and 10 , Cannon-st ,, City . West Mrui Offices . —1 . New Coventry-street , Leicester-sq . . It ia with feelings of peculiar satisfaction the DIRECTORS of the UNITY GENTERAL ASSURANCE ASSOCIATION submit the following statements respecting its progress and business during the year 1855 , commencing 1 st January , and ending 3 lst December last . It ¦ will be observed the amount of new business transacted during that period produces annual premiums exceeding £ 12 . 390 . This is a very large result indeed , judged by the average amount of new business effected by other life offices , which varies from £ 3 , 000 to ; £ 5 , 0 O 0 per annum . There is but one suie test bv \ yhich the progress and soundness of a life assurance institution can be judged practically —viz ., the amount of new busine-s it secures . No other test is valuable qr even useful for such purpose . Unless a life office continues year after year to obtain a large new business , it must rapidly decline and eventually cease to exist . STATEMENT of New LiPe Business of the UNITY GENERAL ASSURANCE ASSOCIATION , from 1 st January , 1855 . to 31 st December , 18 J 5 : —
