London . Friday Eveninj;, June 11. Inact...
London . Friday Eveninj ; , June 11 . Inactivity i « all the markets for public securities has been the general complain t during tho week , with a tendencj in all foreign and colonial shares to droop . The comments of our press 011 the ominous increase of the unmanageable laud aiid riava . 1 force in Prance , have contributed to depress the speculators for a rise . The American question , again is in so unsatisfactory a state , that should some uufo tunatt collision take place with any of our men-of-war and thoa < ^ p * -i-i , » TTiiitwi Kt-. jit-. fiK the-, full iii tho funds would be hoav . i
and without dulay . The Indian news , again , is not without drawbacks , and the large increase to our forces that seems imperative , with the cprtainty of the hot weather and the rainy season increasing thu mortality in our army , sire secondary causes that go some way to make the public cautious of Inlying stock and shares . Against this we have the great case in the money market ; this may be deceptive , for , from the absence of all speculation in any way , thuro is no call for investors to employ tlheir money ; but will the man who lias been used to his 6 and 7 per cent ., and lives up tp thnt rate , bo content with 2 and 2 J , and liow long will he remain cautious and prudent ? The forei gn stocks are marked all a shade lower . The Wow Brazilian Loan , which was done at its first ; birth at 1 premium , can bo bought now at par . Canadian securities and Australian are but sparely dealt in . Tho heavy market shares continue dull . A slight reaction took place yesterday , but there- is no heart in the market . Calcilonians havo been as low as 801 , a difference-of 10 or 12 per cent , since il » o last dividend was declared . Dovers nro 2 percent lower . Great Northern alone sccin to stand well , with no better prospects than other lines ; these shares arc so well held that they stand in proportion to other shares at above their intrinsic value . In miscellaneous shares there is tout littlodifleronce . Joint-stock bank shares are without any marked change . Mining sharesaro quite at a standstill .

§ 1ib. Tom Tayloe's New Comedy, Going To...
§ 1 IB . TOM TAYLOE'S NEW COMEDY , Going to the Bad , is the singular name of Mr . Tom Taylob ' s new comedy produced at the Olympic on Monday night . The drama turns on the fortunes of a good-natured man ( played by Mr . Robson ) , who is induced by some worldly-minded friends to assume a cynicism when he has it not , and who is finally brought back again to his belief in kindness . Mr . Taylor is an experienced " writer for the stage , and he has . produced another amusing piece to add to his former successes . Moreover , it is excel l ently acted ; for the author has the happy art of taking an exact measure ^ of the capacity of his actors . The drama , however , has little to do ^ vith art in any deep sense of the word . It is a verv clever sketch of real life—of those trivial contemporary personages who make " up the common web and woof of our existence . Audience ? are pleased with such dramas because they understand and recognize them ; and , in , this particular instance , the dialogue is really clever , easy , and natural T » thout being too epigrammatic for ordinary play-goers . The moral that sympathy " pays" better than cynicism is , however , hardly made out . But the audience have crowned Mr . Tatlok ' s last effort with their approval , and further criticism would be superfluous . .- ¦ - __
