At the close of the proceedings the bench determined on remanding the prisoner in order to procure other important evidence . m The body of a male child was found with a cord tightly tied round the neck in the Thames on Sunday morning by a lighterman named Millege . The body was floating in the water , it was quite naked , and a strong cord was tightly fastened around the neck and under the knees , which were drawn up . Mr . Henry , a surgeon , said the child had lived some time ; but whether it had died from strangulation or any other means he could not positively state .
A man named Nelson , a shoemaker , who lived in a . cellar in Baymond-street , Liverpool , quarrelled with his wife on Friday evening while they were drinking together . After fighting some time the woman went out and returned in about half an hour , when the quarrel was resumed . He had a large hammer in his hand with which he struck her a severe blow . She fell down as if in a fit . A surgeon was sent for , but before he arrived the woman was dead . Her wretched husband , with whom she led a life of dissipation and misery , has been taken , into custody . _ .

Creighton , a native of the county of Cavan , after practising as a physician in Dublin with considerable success , became insane lately , and , with a view to his recovery , was removed by his friends to his native place about two months ago . Under the advice of his friends he was about to commence farming , in the hope that it would promote his return to a sound state of health , and arrangements for that purpose were nearly completed . On Tuesday last , however , he obtained his razors , which under the
have been kept from him for some time , pretence that his servant was waiting to shave him . Instead of doing so , however , he went down to the kitchen , where he found a young lady , named Miss Faris , a near relative , then on a visit previous to going to America . He appears to have murdered her at once , as she was found about a quarter of an hour afterwards with her head nearly severed from her body . He then cut his own throat , and when found was just expiring . The two bodies were both buried in one grave early on Wednesday morning .

Hahn lithographed all the members of Parliament at Vienna and at Kremsier . One of his best pictures is now in the Palace of Prince Coburg . This painting representing the battle of Waitsen , fought by Hungarians against the Austrians , contains two hundred figures , one hundred of which are the size of life . M . Hahn , who is remarkable for great rapidity of execution and fidelity of drawing , intends to exercise his profession chiefly in portrait-painting .

The wife of General Avezzana , the distinguished Italian patriot , met with a shocking accident on the evening of the 25 th ultimo , from the effects of which she will not recover . While attempting to shut an open window-blind at her residence in Broadway , she was precipitated into the street upon the pavement The window , which extended to the floor , was in the second story , about twelve feet from the ground . Madame Avezzana fell upon the side of her head , and was taken up senseless . A German literary journal states " that the heirs of Schiller and Goethe have obtained possession from the government of Weimar of the original MS . correspondence carried on between those two illustrious men during the years from 1794 to 1805 , consisting of four hundred and forty-two letters written entirely by Schiller ; one hundred and five wholly written , and four hundred and eiffht dictated and stoned by Goethe . Letters from Florence state that Hiram Powers , the American sculptor , has completed a grand allegorical figure of his country . The statue , a female , has a diadem beneath her feet and in her hand the cap of liberty . The destination of the statue is reported to be Washington . Great excitement was felt in New York in anticipation of Jenny Lind ' s arrival . Mr . Barnum , fully sensible of the enormous risk he has incurred , has spared no expense in preparing the American public for her reception . All the leading journals have been taken in hand , all the attache ' s of the press have been secured in her favour ; an immense hall has been erected in which she is to sing ; t two hundred dollar premium has been
offered for the best words of a song for her to sing , and five dollars per ticket has been fixed as the price of admission .

The Bordeaux papers contain an appalling account of the fatal termination of Lieutenant Gale ' s balloon ascent , on horseback , from the Hippodrome of Vincennes , in the tieighbourhood of the city , on Sunday last . Lieutenant Gale had succeeded in reaching the ground witn his pony , when the people who came to assist him , misunderstanding his directions , after the , pony was released let go the ropes . The unfortunate aeronaut , hanging on by his hands to a rope , was instantly caught up into the air with the balloon , which continued ascending for upwards of a mile . The next day a body was discovered m the direction which the balloon had taken , which WM identified as that of Lieutenant Gale . The Moniteur publishes a list of forty-four Councils-General who have voted for the revision of the Constitution , which is just the majority . Only seven of the Councils have voted against revision .
Serious riots have occurred in the Drdme . On the 4 th instant , at Clionselet , irk the canton of Loriol , and department of the Dr 6 me , the generale was beaten for the rescue of some prisoners . A mob snatched one from the gendarmerie at Mirmande , and several communes seemed disposed to favour an insurrectional movement . Telegraphic despatches from Valence announce that the insurgents were dispirited at the approach of the troops . It is added that the disarmament of the five neighbouring communes of the department of the Ardeche will be effected without difficulty . Letters from Algeria mention that five new arrests have been made at Oran in connection with the conspiracy discovered some time ago there ; sixty-four persons , not including the military , are now in custody .
The Attorney-General was preparing his indictment . Three elections took place on Monday in the Tenth Legion of the National Guard of Paris . The three Moderate candidates were elected—one by 152 votes against 84 , given to his Socialist competitor ; the second by 39 votes to 28 ; and the third by 67 to 11 . Having discovered that many of the shoal of " Californian Companies" which have lately been started are mere swindling concerns , the French Prefect of Police is about to denounce them to the public . The French Minister of Agriculture and Commerce has decided that a commission shall be formed for drawing up measures for the restocking with fish , the rivers , ponds , and lakes of the country , and that in the mean , time a sum of 2000 f . shall be awarded to Messrs . Gehin and Remy , as a recompense for what they have done in the propagation of fish by artificial means , and to encourage them to make further efforts .
A good opportunity of judging of the comparative comfort enjoyed by the working classes of Paris was afforded on Sunday at St . Cloud , being the first day of the fair , which lasts twenty-one days . It was remarked by persons who have attended there for the last thirty years that there never was a greater assemblage of respectably-dressed artisans and their families than on the present occasion . They continued to pour into the town and park from eight in the morning to five in the afternoon , and , extensive as the grounds are , it was difficult to make way amongst the dense crowds . The proprietors of the booths and theatres reaped a rich harvest , and dancing was kept up until midnight .
The French Minister of the Interior has granted a privilege for a new kind of spectacle , to be called the " Champ de Foire . " It is to be situated in the Rue de Bondy , and to occupy a large tract of land which separates the Rue Samson from the Rue du Faubourg du Temple . A lease for three years , at 60 , 000 francs a-year has been signed . The works necessary for the establishment are estimated at 150 , 000 francs . The opening is fixed for the month of April , or at the latest May next . There are to be gardens , restaurants , cafe ' s , concerts , pantomimes , rope * dancing , and all kinds of farcical performances . The place is to be open all day , and the price of entrance is to be 50 cents ( 5 d . )
The Roman Post-office has recommended its rigorous exclusion of such foreign newspapers as express opinions unfavourable to the Papal Court or to any of the corrupt branches of Administration . All the liberal press of England , France , and Tuscany , has been long since prohibited ; but though the Times , Galignani , and the Journal des Debats have nominally free entrance , not ft day passes but one or the other is excluded . The authorities of Milan have invited contractors to send in their proposals for the erection of three small forts , to be constructed at a distance of 1000 metres from Milan , opposite the Ticino and Vercelli gates , and the Porta Nuova . The total cost of these works is laid at 5 , 000 , 000 f ., and they are to be completed by 1854 .
The Duke of Parma , by decree of the 26 th ultimo , has closed the Alberonian College of St . Lazarus , on account of the political conduct of the priests of the mission . The college had some days before been strictly searched by the police . The priests and pupils who are not subjects of Parma were commanded to leave the territory immediately , and not to return without special leave . The official journal of the Two Sicilies publishes a decree , dated Palermo , August 13 , declaring that the punishment of death will be incurred by any violation of
the sanitary cordon established on the coast and in other parts of the kingdom . The Statuto , of Florence , of the 3 rd instant , quotes a letter from Naples , stating that four generals and a great number of officers of the army hau been dismissed the service , and that four commissaries of police of that capital had been superseded in their offices . The Vienna Gazette announces the recent discovery of what it calls a '' revolutionary plot" at Ancona , and the arrest of fourteen young men belonging to good families —among them the Marquis Bufalini , Count Signoretti , M . Celestini , &c .
