The novel and striking advantages of this Company , when compared with those of ordinary Life Assurance Societies , will be readily perceived by the following example and table . Suppose a person aged 20 commence by depositing £ 10 with this Company , and continue to do so every year till he arrives at 50 , he will have paid to the Company £ 300 , for which he will hold a policy for £ 695 12 s . 4 d ., payable to his representatives in case of death . Should he , liowever , survive 50 , and become unable to pay , * or not be desirous of continuing his payments , he can either retain his policy , and still remain assured for £ 695 12 s . 4 d ., or he may cancel his Policy , and receive in cash £ 382 17 s . 0 d ., being £ 82 17 s . John Clegg , Newall ' s Buildings , Manchester . Messrs . King and Sons , Liverpool . , OFFICES . 40 , Gracechurch Street . This Company has been formed for the purpose of establishing in Victoria Colony , and its vicinity , such a system of Inland Conveyance for Merchandise , Ag ricultural Produce , Passengers , &c , as the rapidly-increasing commerce and population absolutely require . In the first week of July , upwards of 400 tons of goods were shipped here for the interior of Victoria ; and , according to late advices , as much as ^ 90 per ton have been charged for the carriage of one ton of goods from Melbourne to the diggings , a distance of about 70 miles , while in England the average price of carriage is only one shilling per ton per mile ! And when it ia remembered that on the 25 th August forty-one vessels were entered at the Custom House , London , for Port Philip , with a tonnage of 21 , 000 tons , no doubt can possibly exist as to the actual necessity for the immediate introduction of a comprehensive system of inland conveyance , or ol the profits wmen will arise from its adoption . Careful estimates of the outlay , traffic returns , wear and tear , income , &c . &c , have been compiled from the best sources , and examined and approved by the Directors ; but for greater security they havo thought it right to submit those estimates to a gentleman , whose great practical experience in carrying business justifies them in regarding his opinion as an authority on the subject , and ho has reported that tlio estimates , after providing 15 per cent , per annum dividend , and a largo annual surplus to profit for extended operations , will give tho Company a sound financial position , and that " the undertaking is highly practical , sound in its general features , and likely to bo productive , under proper management , of tho most satisfactory results . " Copies of tho estimates may bo inspected at the Company ' s Ofliccs , and at the principal provincial Brokers of the Company . Sheds and Warehouses for imported goods will bo constructed on an extensive scale , for tho accommodation of tho public , as well as for the service of tho Company . It may become necessary for the Company , in furtherance of their Currying Business , to provide Stations and Hotels , and powers will be reserved for that purpose ; but it must not be supposed that they will at present be of an expensive or permanent character , as they will bo constructed in ( hid country , and moveable , ro that , as the locality for busineas is varied by the growing importance- of any particular place , they may bo easily transported as may be required . A Colonial Committee will direct tho local management of tho Company , and all officers entrusted with the administration of the Company ' s funds or affairs , will bo required to provide approved security for the duo account of moneys , and the faithful discharge of their duties . The Directors are much gratified that they havo been enabled to secure ( lie services of the throe gentlemen above named on tho Colonial Committee , and to announce that the Chairman , Christopher Porter , Ksq ., sailed for Port Philip on the 5 th ol October , to carry out the Company's arrangements . Applications for Shares to be addressed to tho Secretary or the JJrokcrs . Prospectuses may be had at tlio Company ' s Offices , of Mr . F . A . Helps , Broker , 21 , Finch Lane , Cornhill , London ; ami of Messrs . . Ion . King and Sons , Liverpool , and Mr . J . Clegg , Manchester . FoUM O 1 P Al'IT . lOATlOIf FOU HlIAKKH .
