Alexander Robert Irvine , Esq . Archibald Spens , Esq . John Inglis Jerdein , Esq . Frederick Valiant , Esq , James John Kinloch , Esq . Rev . F . W . J . Vickery . This Society is established on the tried and approved principle of Mutual Assurance . The funds are accumulated for the exclusive benofit of the Policy-holders , under their own immediate superintendence and control . The Fronts are divided annually , and applied in reduction of the current Premiums . Policy-holders participate m Profits after payment of five annual Premiums . The Annual General Meeting was held on the 28 th of May , 1856 , when a highly satisfactory Report of the state of the affairs and progress of the Institution was presented to the Members . During the last three years , upwards of 1200 new assurances have been effected , yielding an increase of premium income of more than 20 . 000 f per annum ; and although a general high rate of mortality has prevailed among Assured fives during the last two years , it has not been deemed necessary to reduce , in tbe slightest degree , the allowances previously awarded to the Policy-holders . The Members present at the Meeting were fully satisfied with the Report , and resolved unanimously that a reduction of Sli per cent , should be made in the current year ' s Premium payable by all Policy-holders now entitled to participate in the Profits . Credit is allowed for half the Aunual Premiums for the first five years . The following Table exemplifies the effect of the present reduction . Age when Amount ^ mJrf' Allowance of tSSK ^ T Assured .
