We give , in the Star of this dajyanaccooat of four important public meetings : tiat of the Trades of London , the people of Manchester , the inhabitants of Paisley , and the Working Men ' s Association of Hulk At each and every one of -which , the language of the several speakers was bold and to the question ; bnt a particular notice is due to the great meeting , held on Monday night , in the Joiners' Hall , Manchester , for the purpose of procuring a total repeal of the Xew Poor La \ r . A particular notice is
due to this meeting , in consequence 01 the mis-statement , contained in the Manchester Guardian , "with reference to the paucity of numbers , and the increasing apathy of the people . The circumstance , of all . others , which gave us xnost pleasure was , the fact of the meeting being held in the Joiner ' s Hall , a building ereefe&iy title carpenters of ^ Manchester , -which , -with its capacious gallery , is capable of holding more than 5 , 000 persons , and -which , on Monday aiight , would not have accommodated 600 more
than were in it . Now for " Guardian " arithmetic . 600 from 5 , 000 and 1 , 000 remains . 1 , 000 , says the " Gnordian / ' and rod more , were present . The Cambridge boys had a curious method of discovering the name of the captain of a vessel . It -was this .. They multiplied the number of guns bv the number of sailors , and divided the marines into it , -which gave the' name of the captain . Mayhap , approving of Cambridge arithmetical science , the " Guardian"
multip lied the number of stamps by the number of advertisements and divided the Whigadvertising community into it , which gave the number of the meeting . " Therewas nothing neve , "" says the Guardian . Odd , indeed , would it be , if a great grievance could exist , for more than four years , in this country , without ha vim ? elicited all the
popular condemnation , which its crying injustice merited . " There is nothing new under the Sun , " but as we were under the Moon on Monday night , we heard much norelry from the interesting details , communicated by the several delegates ; as to the good working of the " Boon , ' in their respective districts . Hud the " Guardian before heard ' 'the able
exposure by Mr . Elijah Dixon , " of the " " system of paying rates , intended as a joint of the " New ~ ' Poor Law Tail ? Had the " Guardian'' before heard , at any ' Whi g meeting , such an appeal as that of the Hew Mr . Stephens : adhering strictly to the question , while , in language sublime , and -argument novel and convincing , he successfully maintained his position , that the Act is no law , but a violation of all law , iustice , and humanity .
Here we must be allowed one word upon a subject to which we mean to devote a commentary ; namely , the disowning of Mr . Stephens by the " Manchester Advertiser " upon the prrt of the whole body of Radicals . This is rather an arbitrary ediei for a supporter of Universal Suffrage . But , wldle we concede to the ' - Mau < -1 u ± Ur ~ 4 < l-

CAPITAL , CANADA , A $ D AMERICA . The great subject of contemplation which now possesses , and ought to possess , an all-engrossing interest , for the toiling millions of these realms , is the operation of the damnable " coarser food" law , and its various ramifications ; the most important of which is the transportation of the five Scotch Patriots , for endeavouring to uphold the right of labour . We repeat that this is the most important of all the numerous ramifications through which the agency of this infernal measure is extended . The full dominion of the monster , Capital , is perfect , only in wretched Ireland , and even there it would-seem , by the late movements of its ally and supporter , not to sit quite so firmly on the throne as is accordant with its monstrous desires . Let but the scattered shreds of union , winch still exist among detached portions of the people , be annihilated , and -their doom is sealed . The mud cabin , of
the Irish peasant , with his half modicum of potatoes without salt , must then be the permanent condition of the enterprising hardy , and industrious EHglish . operative and Scotch artisan . And , indeed , we do riot hesitate to say , that , if the people permit them to do this , with the experience they now have , and are every day having , ol "their heartlessness , they will amply deserve their fate .
= Next to this all-important subject , the interests , the feelings , and the sympathies of the people are most deeply involved in the straggle of our brave brethren of Canada to throw off the incubus of tyranny and despotism : That that struggle will be successful there can be no doubt , on the mind of anvman who is not wilfullv blind to the . most glaring probabilities . That one among the many ruinous consequences , of the tenacious holding of its pre y by the harpv ' s
